Iran Seeks $270bn in Reparations After US-Israeli Strikes

Iran Seeks $270bn in Reparations After US-Israeli Strikes

Iran’s government spokesman says preliminary estimates put damage from US-Israeli strikes at about $270 billion. She stressed this figure is not final and that war damages must be assessed in multiple layers. Fatemeh Mohajerani told RIA Novosti that reparations were a key issue during the Islamabad talks. She said Tehran is pursuing compensation for losses suffered in the February 28 strikes. The conflict escalated after joint US and Israeli attacks that left thousands killed or injured. Iran then launched retaliatory strikes on Israel, Iraq, Jordan and Gulf bases hosting US forces. A recent two-week ceasefire followed 21 hours of talks in Islamabad without a settlement on reparations.

How realistic is Iran's claim of $270bn damages given the complex layers of war assessment they mentioned?

I agree. Without transparent methodology and itemized losses, verifying such a massive claim seems unrealistic.

True, claiming such a huge figure feels like a stretch given all the assumptions in their assessment model.

Estimating $270bn seems inflated when damage assessments haven't been finalized, especially since multiple layers of evaluation are required.

I'm not convinced reparations negotiations can proceed smoothly while regional tensions remain so high and mutual distrust persists.

Focusing on transparent third-party auditing might help ground initial estimates and build a shared basis for these complex war damage claims.
