Tuchel Raises Alarm Over Uneven Pitch Ahead of England’s World Cup Friendly

Tuchel Raises Alarm Over Uneven Pitch Ahead of England’s World Cup Friendly

England coach Thomas Tuchel has warned about uneven turf at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa ahead of their warm-up match with New Zealand. Images of the new playing surface, reportedly laid just days earlier, showed patches that could heighten injury risks. Tuchel admitted the pitch looked “a little bit worrying” but said it would not alter his team selection. The Three Lions will split the squad into two groups for 45 minutes each as they continue final preparations. Tuchel also confirmed captain Harry Kane is in “top shape” as England open their World Cup campaign against Croatia on June 17, before facing Ghana and Panama in Group L.

Has anyone spotted those uneven turf patches at Raymond James Stadium? Could they actually raise the risk of injuries for England or New Zealand players?

Good point about those odd grass spots. They might cause players to misstep or twist ankles during play.

Looks like the new turf may barely settle in just days. Grass needs time to root firmly, especially under World Cup warm-up pressure.

Is Tuchel overreacting though? Patches aren't unheard of, and the match might still go ahead without any real trouble.

Organisers should roll out a recovery plan: regular watering, compacting heavy spots and close inspections before kickoff to keep players safe.
