INEC Dismisses APC Chairman’s 12.9 Million Membership Claim
The Independent National Electoral Commission has denied figures released by APC national chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, saying the data did not come from the commission. INEC’s Chief Press Secretary, Dayo Oketola, told journalists the numbers were not official. Yilwatda had claimed APC submitted 12.9 million verified members to INEC, far more than PDP’s 2.4 million, ADC’s 1.6 million, Labour Party’s 1.3 million and NDC’s 700,000. He said APC’s database was synchronised with NIMC and cited a 10.9 million turnout in the party’s presidential primary. I’m sorry to say Peter Obi is not a serious politician. After hearing the APC’s claimed strength, one might expect tougher questions. Instead, he’s off to South Africa as a minister or ambassador despite lacking the authority to challenge xenophobia. Heading into the general election with 12 million members gives APC a clear upper hand.
