Ismael Saibari Becomes First African to Score in All Three World Cup Group Fixtures

Ismael Saibari Becomes First African to Score in All Three World Cup Group Fixtures — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Morocco’s Ismael Saibari made history at the 2026 World Cup by becoming the first African to score in every group match of a single tournament. He opened his account with a stoppage-time chip in the draw against Brazil, struck just 71 seconds into the win over Scotland, and sealed the milestone with a late goal against Haiti. In doing so, Saibari eclipsed legends like Roger Milla, Rashidi Yekini, Samuel Eto’o and Asamoah Gyan, none of whom managed this across three group outings. Fresh off his third straight Eredivisie title and Player of the Year award with PSV, the 25-year-old is set to join Bayern Munich on a five-year contract after completing his medical ahead of a €55 million move.

This feat might look impressive, but a stoppage-time goal and an early strike don't paint the full picture against tougher opponents.

Not everyone will agree that one player's scoring spree changes the odds for the entire continent at World Cups.

Clubs should track Saibari's timing patterns, scouting players who excel under pressure moments just like his stoppage-time and early strikes.
