Ex-TESCOM Teacher Seeks Help to Claim Unpaid Pension Since 2006

Mr. Udumebraye Steven Ovie joined Lagos State TESCOM in November 1983. He taught Technical Drawing and Mathematics at Amuwo Odofin Boys’ Secondary School until 1991, then moved to the Ministry’s Inspectorate Department. He voluntarily resigned in 1995. His gratuity was paid immediately, and he began drawing pension by hand from 1999 until 2005. He submitted his bank details to TESCOM in 2005 and again in 2006 after Standard Trust Bank became UBA. No pension payments have entered his account since then. Financial challenges and health issues, including loss of vision, forced him to pause visits to Lagos. In 2023, he returned to TESCOM and LASPEC, only to be told his file cannot be found. LASPEC has not yet received the file from TESCOM. He appeals to the Lagos State Government and relevant agencies to locate his file and resume his pension payments.

You're right, the system can be tricky. Gathering all documents and consulting a lawyer or pension advocate seems essential.

It's surprising that his gratuity was settled right away, yet pension payments stalled for decades without explanation from TESCOM or the ministry.

Some retirees managed to claim sooner; perhaps his delay stems from incomplete documentation or unreported service gaps rather than outright neglect.

Start by requesting his pension records through the state Pension Board and consider consulting a lawyer familiar with civil service entitlements.
