‘Stop the Psychological Warfare’: El-Rufai’s Wives Plead With President Tinubu

Two of former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai’s wives have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to halt what they call “psychological warfare” against their family. They spoke after the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission detained Professor Bello Abubakar, El-Rufai’s personal physician, over allegations of abusing a court-approved medical visit. The ICPC says the visit was used for a political meeting, citing photos posted online. On behalf of their husband, the women urged the President to ensure his constitutional rights—access to medical care, family visits, legal counsel and reasonable bail—are respected. They emphasised they are not asking for interference in the prosecution, only for fair treatment. The family worries about El-Rufai’s health, citing high blood pressure and sugar levels. They claimed his restricted access to proper care is traumatising and amounts to intimidation. They also called for an investigation into a disputed medical report used to deny him bail.

Has anyone here faced a situation where personal appeals actually changed how authorities handled such high-profile family disputes?

Do you actually know any case where family pleas forced authorities to change stance, or is this just another public relations move?

It's interesting that the focus is on psychological warfare rather than the allegations tied to the ICPC's detention actions.

Labeling it psychological warfare might distract from the substance of any corruption claims the commission is investigating.

A constructive step could be arranging a joint review meeting with ICPC representatives to clarify facts and address concerns.
