Opposition Should Form New Parties, Not Hijack Existing Ones

Honestly, this development didn’t surprise me. When David Mark was instantly named ADC chairman and Aregbesola became national secretary, I wondered about the process. Which NEC meetings ratified these moves? It feels like a takeover. Obi did it with the LP. Kwankwaso with the NNPP. Others have done the same with the SDP and beyond. These leaders already have supporters. They should register fresh parties instead of reaping where they didn’t sow. Now they blame Tinubu and INEC for the fallout. That’s the height of political irresponsibility. Even the resignation letter wasn’t genuine—what a shame.

Fresh parties sound exciting, but they'll face registration and funding hurdles. Tweaking existing platforms can be more efficient.

Starting thorough NEC meeting records and inviting independent observers could strengthen internal democracy and prevent sudden leadership hijacks in future.
