Atiku’s Camp Fires Back at Onanuga: ‘Second Term Is Not Tinubu’s Birthright’
A fresh dispute has erupted between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s team and the Presidency after presidential aide Bayo Onanuga insisted President Tinubu “must complete eight years” before power returns north. Atiku’s spokesman, Phrank Shaibu, condemned the claim as unconstitutional and anti-democratic. He argued that power rotation is a political convention, not a binding legal rule designed to silence opposition. Shaibu accused the Presidency of hypocrisy, noting that those now defending zoning once ignored it for their own interests. He also dismissed suggestions that zoning cost Atiku the 2023 election, attributing his loss to state interference and electoral irregularities. Rejecting any use of former President Yar’Adua’s death as a political excuse, Shaibu insisted no aide can crown a president for eight years. He said Nigerians, not spin doctors, will decide the country’s future.
