Landmark Book to Honour Pharmacy Icon Prof. Ahmed Tijjani Mora at 70

Landmark Book to Honour Pharmacy Icon Prof. Ahmed Tijjani Mora at 70

One of Nigeria’s leading figures in pharmaceutical regulation and academic pharmacy, Prof. Ahmed Tijjani Mora, will be celebrated with the launch of a book marking his 70th birthday. Titled “Professor Ahmed Tijjani Mora: A Pillar of Pharmacy Regulation in Nigeria,” the book charts his impact on healthcare regulation, pharmacy education and professional leadership over five decades. The launch is set for May 13, 2026, at Abyssinia Hall, Hotel Seventeen in Kaduna. Prof. Mora has mentored generations of pharmacists at Ahmadu Bello University, Kaduna State University and Igbinedion University. He also served in key roles within the Pharmacists Board of Nigeria and the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria, including Registrar/CEO and Chairman of the Governing Council. The Sultan of Sokoto wrote the foreword in recognition of Mora’s quiet but transformative work. Former Vice President Namadi Sambo will chair the event, with the Governor of Kaduna State and other dignitaries in attendance. Many see this celebration as a salute to the systems that protect Nigerians from fake drugs and weak medicine regulation.

Is it realistic to expect a tribute book to influence policymaking on pharmacy regulations here?

This celebration seems noteworthy, but I wonder if a single volume can truly capture the full scope of Prof. Mora's regulatory achievements.

A book launch is nice, yet genuine progress depends more on updated policies and enforcement than on commemorative publications.

Perhaps professional bodies could use this occasion to host workshops on current pharmacy standards alongside the book presentation.
