Court Schedules July 2 Hearing in Emeka Ike’s N10bn Privacy Suit Against Wike’s Aide
The Federal High Court in Abuja has set July 2 for mention in the N10 billion fundamental rights suit filed by actor-politician Emeka Ike against Lere Olayinka and INEC over an alleged breach of his personal data. During Thursday’s session, Ike’s lawyer raised questions on how service was effected on the respondents and asked the court for proof of service to avoid any jurisdictional issues. Justice Salim Ibrahim then adjourned the matter to allow the defence time to file their response. The suit alleges that Olayinka, a senior special assistant to the FCT Minister, leaked the actor’s voter registration details on social media without approval. It seeks declarations of privacy violations under the Constitution and the Nigeria Data Protection Act and demands joint N10 billion damages, plus an apology and removal of the post.
