Senate Approves Three-Month Extension for 2025 Capital Budget Execution

The Senate has approved an amendment to the 2025 Appropriation Act, shifting the deadline for capital budget implementation from March 31, 2026 to June 30, 2026. Sponsored by Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the change reflects concerns that only about 30% of funds released to Ministries, Departments and Agencies have been deployed. Bamidele warned that stalled projects risk becoming abandoned without additional time. Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin backed the move, noting it aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for infrastructure development. He said the extension will promote continuity, strengthen fiscal discipline and support ongoing economic growth.
