Ogun SWAN Partners UK Groups to Improve Sports Journalism and Peacebuilding
Ogun State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has opened discussions with international partners to strengthen training and professionalism among Nigerian sports journalists. At a meeting in Abeokuta, representatives of the United Kingdom-based Empire Fighting Chance, Bristol Boxing Foundation and the Peace Initiative Network discussed exchange programmes, specialised training and exposure to global reporting standards. Ogun SWAN said better capacity in areas such as boxing, football and golf would support more accurate and responsible sports coverage. Empire Fighting Chance highlighted its use of boxing and psychological support to help young people facing crime, gang violence and mental health challenges. The partners also announced plans for a non-contact boxing programme in Abeokuta focused on peacebuilding, youth engagement and social development. The Peace Initiative Network will coordinate the inaugural SWAN National Peace Tour, which is expected to bring together journalists, government bodies, civil society groups, sports associations and international partners to promote safer and more inclusive communities.
