Fire Destroys Hertfordshire Children’s Zoo, All Animals Perish

Fire Destroys Hertfordshire Children’s Zoo, All Animals Perish — 1 of 3
1 / 3

In the early hours of June 10, a fire tore through The Jungle Box soft play centre and mini zoo on the Watermill Industrial Estate in Buntingford. Ten fire engines were dispatched to tackle the blaze. After winding down the flames, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that all the small animals inside – from meerkats and owls to iguanas, giant tortoises and a 16-foot snake – did not survive. Fortunately, no one was injured. Thick black smoke billowed from the building, prompting road closures on Aspenden Road and London Road and warnings for nearby residents to keep doors and windows shut. Fire officials have launched an investigation into the cause, while neighbouring businesses have expressed their condolences to the zoo’s team.

Deploying ten fire engines shows serious response, yet every animal tragically perished. Something about the site's design or fire alarms seems questionable.

Before jumping to conclusions, shouldn't we wait for the fire investigation report? Operators might have complied fully with safety regulations.
