Businessman Petitions ICPC Over Senator Ireti Kingibe’s Alleged $65,000 Scam
A petition dated April 27, 2026, accuses Senator Ireti Kingibe of collecting $65,000 (about N118m) for a federal contract that never existed. The businessman claims she denied receiving the funds, refunded only N50m and threatened him with arrest over the N68m balance. The scheme began in October 2024 when the senator’s aide urged a businessman to raise $100,000, promising contract awards as repayment. He managed to pay $65,000 in two instalments but saw no contract materialise. After months of waiting, the senator allegedly denied the transaction and only agreed to refund N50m in May 2025. At the original exchange rate, this left N68m outstanding. The petition requests an urgent ICPC investigation into abuse of office and recovery of the remaining funds.
