NDLEA Cracks Down on Drug Dens in Kano, Arrests 52

NDLEA Cracks Down on Drug Dens in Kano, Arrests 52

The NDLEA Kano Command launched Operation Sharar Mafaka on 27 April to dislodge notorious drug joints across the metropolis. On day one, raids at Filin Idi, Tashar Rami, Fagge, Abattoir and Farm Centre led to 15 arrests and the seizure of various illicit substances and paraphernalia. The following morning, officers struck Hotoro Flyover, Mariri Park, Ramin Jirga Tishama, Yankaba Park and Audu Bako Secretariat, detaining 16 suspects—including three women—and recovering assorted drugs and locally made weapons. On the evening of 28 April, further operations in Kwanar Ungogo, Titin Jajira, Tudun Bojuwa and parts of Sabon Gari yielded 21 more arrests, bringing the total to 52 suspects, including four women. Authorities secured additional drugs and evidence items during these last raids. The NDLEA Commander in-Charge emphasised a “dislodge and occupy” strategy until normalcy returns. The command reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing enforcement, community engagement and partnership with citizens in pursuit of a drug-free society.

Focusing so many raids on Filin Idi and Tashar Rami might just shift dealers elsewhere instead of stopping the trade.

Raid-focused tactics overlook deeper social issues driving drug dens, so arrests alone won't solve underlying community problems.
