Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim Asks Court to Reinstate Him as Accord’s 2027 Presidential Candidate

Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim Asks Court to Reinstate Him as Accord’s 2027 Presidential Candidate

Hundreds of supporters gathered at the Federal High Court in Abuja as Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim began legal action to reclaim his place as Accord Party’s chosen candidate for the 2027 election. He filed suit naming the party and INEC as defendants. He alleges that despite winning the May 30, 2026 primary as the sole aspirant, his name was not forwarded to INEC in breach of the Electoral Act and party rules. The suit seeks declarations that Accord’s omission violates Sections 86 and 28 of the Electoral Act and guidelines. It asks the court to order the party either to submit his name or to conduct a fresh primary in which he can participate. INEC and the party both applied for an adjournment, which was granted. The substantive hearing is set for July 14, 2026, in a case seen as a key test of internal party democracy ahead of the next presidential contest.
