1 / 3

Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan, the Alema of Warri, has refuted claims attributed to him by a national newspaper suggesting he told someone to ‘focus more on kitchen duties’. In a statement issued in Abigborodo, he accused the outlet of spreading misinformation and undermining his reputation. He reiterated his respect for the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and insisted he never made the controversial remarks. “I have no connection with that video or news story,” he said, stressing the need for accurate attribution and responsible journalism. Uduaghan warned he will pursue legal action over the false report and urged the publication to retract the story or update it with the correct source.

Do you think the Alema of Warri has grounds to sue the newspaper over that 'kitchen duties' quote?

What proof must he present to show the newspaper acted negligently or maliciously?

It's interesting that the chief's statement was issued from Abigborodo specifically, yet the newspaper report didn't mention that detail.

I'm not convinced the paper intended harm; misquotes can happen without malice or an agenda behind every headline.

Before jumping to lawsuits, it might help to request a formal correction or retraction from the newspaper through official channels.
