Police Crack Down on Fake Checkpoints, Arrest 50 Suspects in Nationwide Sweep

Police Crack Down on Fake Checkpoints, Arrest 50 Suspects in Nationwide Sweep

Between January and March, the Nigeria Police Force arrested 50 suspects involved in fake checkpoints, kidnapping, banditry, robbery and other offences across the country. Operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) led coordinated raids that recovered 17 rifles, over 100 rounds of live ammunition, magazines, walkie-talkies and a fake Mobile Force uniform used as a decoy. Key operations include the March 3 arrest of four robbery suspects in Benue, the March 13 break-up of an abduction and extortion ring on the Deidei–Kubwa Expressway in Abuja, and the March 29 capture of three kingpins linked to the killing of three policemen in Taraba. Investigations are ongoing to track down other gang members and recover additional weapons and assets.
