Listen, Act, and Serve: Reflections on James 1:19-27

In James 1:19-27, we’re encouraged to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Human anger doesn’t produce the righteousness God desires. We’re called to get rid of moral filth and humbly accept the life-saving word planted within us. True faith goes beyond hearing. It demands action. Those who look into the perfect law and continue in it—remembering and doing what they’ve heard—will be blessed in their deeds. Pure and faultless devotion cares for orphans and widows in their distress and keeps the believer’s heart and tongue from corruption.
