Why Education Feels Like a Scam for Nigerian Graduates

I believe education in Nigeria is a scam. After at least sixteen years of study, many graduates struggle to find jobs that match their effort. A young person trained as a mechanic could become financially secure much earlier than a degree holder. Fresh from NYSC, a graduate often faces a harsh job market with unkept promises. The expectations that come with a degree rarely match reality, whether here or in developed countries. It begs the question: is formal education still worth the sacrifice?

After sixteen years of study and still no matching job, do you think the system fails graduates or is there a gap in skill training?

You're right, spending all those years only to struggle for a job feels like a flawed system.

It's interesting that a mechanic can earn sooner, but many degree holders still lack practical experience employers demand.

I'm not convinced education itself is the problem; perhaps expectations for entry-level roles are unrealistic compared to the investment in a degree.

Start exploring short vocational programs or internships while studying, so you graduate with both a degree and hands-on skills to attract employers.
