Why Cleaning My Girlfriend’s House Made Me Call It Quits
I started dating my girlfriend last year and put a lot of effort into our relationship. Over time, I noticed a clear double standard: she could disappear for days without explanation, yet she got upset whenever I needed space. The first time I visited her home, it was a mess. On her visits to my place, I always cleaned, mopped, and arranged everything. After many reminders, I decided to tidy her house myself—and the condition still didn’t improve. Rotting cashews, sugar under the couch, and dirty dishes became the norm. I also felt unappreciated beyond cleanliness. I celebrated her birthday on a tight budget, but she barely remembered mine. I handled most of our expenses, cooking, and cleaning while she spent her time on her phone. Eventually, I realised this wasn’t just about messiness. It was about incompatibility and an unequal share of responsibilities. I’m emotionally exhausted and have decided to end the relationship and move on.
