Ogun Labour and Teachers Protest in Abeokuta Over Oyo School Abductions

Ogun Labour and Teachers Protest in Abeokuta Over Oyo School Abductions

In Abeokuta, members of the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Nigeria Union of Teachers and civil society groups joined a nationwide protest demanding the release of 39 students and seven teachers abducted in Oyo State. The attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area reportedly claimed the life of a mathematics teacher. Protesters marched through major streets carrying banners with messages like “Set Our Teachers and Pupils Free” and “Stop the Attacks on Schools.” They sang solidarity songs and used megaphones to call for stronger security around school communities. Speakers urged security agencies to intensify rescue efforts and warned that rising insecurity could cripple education in Nigeria. Labour and union leaders vowed to escalate actions if the abductees are not freed promptly and appealed to all residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities.

Some say protest is enough, but na security overhaul we need first before any real progress.

Community leaders should coordinate with security agencies to improve patrols around schools and share real-time incident reports.
