Jamaica Smashes Mixed 4x100m World Record as Nigeria Books Two Championship Slots
At the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, Jamaica’s mixed 4x100m relay team lowered the world record for the second time in 48 hours. Ackeem Blake, Tina Clayton, Kadrian Goldson and Tia Clayton blazed a stunning 39.62s to claim gold and secure their spot at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest. Team Nigeria showed resilience despite baton errors. In the mixed 4x400m relay, Samson Nathaniel, Taiwo Kudoro, Chidi Okezie and Patience Okon-George ran a season’s best of 3:12.88 to finish second in their heat and qualify for the 2027 World Championships in Beijing. Nigeria also placed sixth in the record-breaking mixed 4x100m final (42.03s), guaranteeing their presence at both Budapest’s Ultimate Championships and Beijing 2027. While Jamaica remains the benchmark for sprint speed, Nigeria’s performance underlines its growing strength on the world stage.
