One Month After ‘No More Strikes’, ASUU Sounds Alarm Over Unpaid Allowances
In April, the Education Minister declared that university strikes were permanently over under the 2025 FG/ASUU agreement. But at a recent press briefing in Lagos, ASUU’s zonal leadership said core parts of that deal—consolidated academic allowances, earned academic allowances and professorial allowances—have yet to be integrated into salaries. The union also accused authorities of collecting but failing to remit deductions for pension and cooperative contributions. Outstanding promotion arrears and withheld salaries from the 2022 strike remain unpaid. ASUU warns that without immediate action, the fragile peace in Nigerian universities could collapse, risking fresh disruptions to academic sessions.
