EFCC Witness: Ex-Governor Bello Had No Role in Court-Disputed Property Deals
In a money laundering trial, the EFCC’s 17th witness told the court that former Governor Yahaya Bello never signed or took part in the property transactions under investigation. The witness, Shehu Bala, said Farouk Bello acted as the agent for all title documents and dealings. Under cross-examination by SAN Paul Daudu, Bala confirmed the deeds of assignment and power of attorney were returned to Efab Estate after Farouk Bello’s death. He stressed he is unrelated to both Ali Bello and Farouk Bello and has known Ali Bello only through commodity trading since 2012. Defence counsel questioned whether Ali Bello inherited a second property from his mother, but the prosecution noted the witness did not address inheritance. The exchange underscored unresolved links between the former governor and the real estate transactions.
