NNPC Alerts Public to Fake Refinery Scrap Scam

NNPC Alerts Public to Fake Refinery Scrap Scam

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company has denied issuing any sales of refinery scrap materials, equipment, or components. It warns that claims of authorised scrap sales are misleading and fraudulent. In a statement signed by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, the company clarified that it has not issued any bids, tenders, or expressions of interest for disposing refinery assets in Port Harcourt, Warri, Kaduna, or elsewhere. NNPC urges the public to ignore unsolicited offers and to verify information only through its official communication channels. It also encourages anyone approached by fraudsters posing as NNPC agents to report such incidents to law enforcement. With ongoing efforts to revive state-owned refineries, the company stresses that any legitimate asset disposal will follow transparent, regulatory-compliant processes.

Has anyone else come across similar scam warnings recently or is this the first time NNPC is addressing fake refinery scrap sales?

This alert suggests some people might exploit the refinery parts market, but I wonder how convincing those fake sales offers really look.

I'm not convinced every unverified seller is a scammer, buyers should still compare prices and track legit channels before dismissing all offers.

Anyone planning to buy scrap materials should contact NNPC directly or visit authorised outlets to confirm sales before making any payments.
