Russia to Train Schoolchildren Aged 11–17 in Firearms, Drones and Survival Skills
Russia has boosted mandatory military instruction for students aged 11 to 17. Under the revamped "Fundamentals of Homeland Security and Defence" course, pupils will receive at least 17 hours of basic drills in addition to existing material. Lessons will cover drone operation, field exercises, firearm handling, grenade use and wartime survival techniques. Nuclear‐attack protection training is also included. The updated program is expected to roll out as early as September in occupied Crimea. The move coincides with rising tensions between Russia and NATO, including the construction of a new Russian base near Finland’s border capable of hosting thousands of personnel.
