Tinubu Directs Security Boost in Niger Delta to Ramp Up Oil Production
The Federal Government is strengthening security in the Niger Delta to boost crude oil output. Defence Minister Gen. Christopher Musa spoke after a closed-door meeting at Port Harcourt Barracks. He said this was in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to review regional security and raise production. Musa reported that piracy and armed robbery have fallen significantly. He noted that production is now above contract targets and the government aims even higher. Leaders from oil host communities joined to share their challenges and priorities. The talks also focused on rebuilding trust between communities and oil operators. Musa urged citizens to support security agencies with credible information. Better cooperation, he said, is key to tackling terrorism, banditry and other threats. Paramount Ruler Asari Dokubo called the meeting a positive step and warned that disruptions in oil output hurt national revenue. Nigeria currently produces about 1.5 million barrels per day and targets 2.5 million through stronger collaboration.
