28 Kwara South Communities Desert Homes Amid Kidnapping Surge
Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, coordinator of the Joint Security Watch in Kwara South, warns that rising kidnappings and attacks have forced dozens of villages to flee under cover of darkness. By the end of 2025, at least 28 communities in Ifelodun LGA were abandoned. The displacement later spread to Isin LGA, including Oro-Ago, Omugo, Ahun, Oke-Oyan and others. Even the Owu Falls Road project was halted after workers were kidnapped. Oyin-Zubair accuses some officials of downplaying incidents and silencing victims. He calls for regular briefings by security agencies to journalists, arguing that transparency will curb misinformation and restore public trust. He also appeals to humanitarian organisations to support displaced families, stressing that truth and action are the only paths to resettlement.
