Super Eagles Striker Cyriel Dessers to Miss Rest of Season After Thigh Surgery

Super Eagles Striker Cyriel Dessers to Miss Rest of Season After Thigh Surgery

Cyriel Dessers will be sidelined for about three months after undergoing surgery to address a persistent thigh injury. The 32-year-old Nigeria international opted for the operation following scans in Greece that showed the issue had not healed properly. Dessers first picked up the injury during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and did not feature for the Super Eagles at the tournament. He returned to Panathinaikos earlier this year and was back in light training in February, but the club confirmed surgery became necessary. Since joining Panathinaikos from Rangers last summer, the former Cremonese forward scored two goals and provided one assist in five league appearances. He now faces a lengthy recovery before returning to action.

I hear you. It'll be tough replacing Dessers' pace up front, they must lean more on wing play.

Coaches should rotate strikers now and focus on rehabilitation protocols to ensure Dessers returns fully fit next season.
