FA Stands by Tuchel After Semi-final Heartbreak

England manager Thomas Tuchel has retained the full backing of the Football Association despite a 2-1 loss to Argentina in the 2026 World Cup semi-final. Argentina overturned a one-goal deficit late on, ending England’s hopes of a first final since 1966. Tuchel defended his decisions but pledged to see out his contract through Euro 2028. “I’m looking forward to that even though right now it’s difficult to look that far ahead,” he said. FA chief executive Mark Bullingham described the defeat as “heartbreaking” but praised the players, staff and fans for their efforts. Tuchel, who extended his contract earlier this year, will prepare England for Saturday’s third-place playoff against France.
