Newborn Baby Found Abandoned in Unfinished Gwagwalada Building

Newborn Baby Found Abandoned in Unfinished Gwagwalada Building

A neighbour discovered a newborn baby wrapped in cloth inside an uncompleted structure in the Unguwar Abattoir area of Gwagwalada at around 6:22am on Tuesday, April 14. Vigilantes quickly raised the alarm and alerted the police. The infant was taken to the Social Welfare Department, then moved to an orphanage in Gwako for proper care. Officials say efforts are ongoing to trace the mother of the baby. Investigations by the Gwagwalada Division are still underway to identify those responsible.

What do you think are the underlying reasons someone would abandon a newborn in that uncompleted building in Gwagwalada?

When you say reasons, you mean like financial stress, stigma, or lack of family support?

Do we know if the mother had any support network or faced social stigma that drove her to abandon the newborn?

It's concerning how quickly vigilantes got involved, but I wonder if proper protocols were followed before police arrived at the scene.

I appreciate the concern, but focusing only on this incident alone won't address the wider issue of unsafe construction sites in our communities.

Local authorities should partner with welfare agencies to conduct regular patrols near unfinished structures and train vigilantes on safe rescue procedures.
