‘The Boy Who Gave’: A Gripping Niger Delta Drama Opens in Cinemas May 15
The Boy Who Gave is a lyrical coming-of-age drama set on the Niger Delta’s Bonny Island. It follows Broda, a teenager forced into adulthood after losing his parents. He fights to keep his brilliant brother and spirited sister together against overwhelming odds. The film premiered at the 2025 Africa International Film Festival with nominations for Best Actor, Best Director and Best Feature Film. Nile Entertainment will distribute it nationwide on May 15, 2026. At just 23, Allison Precious Emmanuel wrote, directed and starred in the feature. He also led production design, costume, sound and editing. His earlier shorts won competitions from Sony Pictures and the United Nations. Critics praise its authentic production design, thoughtful lighting and unflinching look at the Black Tax burden on firstborn sons. Pulse Nigeria called it “a debut worth talking about,” while other reviewers highlighted its emotional depth and technical finesse.
