Senator Ndume Warns: Troops Outgunned by Boko Haram, Calls for Urgent Military Support

Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South says our soldiers are being outgunned by Boko Haram due to a lack of mine-resistant vehicles, sufficient ammunition and proper gun trucks. He explains how troops at Ngoshe were forced to withdraw and later regroup only because they did not have the right equipment. He praises President Tinubu for declaring a security state of emergency, boosting recruitment and introducing forest guards. However, he insists the federal government must go further by providing training, arms, ammunition and motivation under his TEAM – Training, Equipment, Ammunition, Motivation – framework. Ndume highlights the plight of displaced families in Gwoza, Pulka and neighbouring areas, calling for rebuilding efforts and permanent air support, including attack helicopters, to protect returning residents. He also salutes Borno State’s own spending on logistics but urges stronger federal backing to secure the North East. The senator stresses that well-equipped and motivated troops, backed by air cover, can end the insurgency swiftly. He hopes President Tinubu will heed this message and ramp up support to our gallant forces.

The call for gun trucks and more ammo has been made before, yet we still see underfunded operations and unprotected soldiers on the front lines.

Even with extra vehicles, Boko Haram's tactics might adapt quickly, so blaming only hardware oversimplifies the challenge at hand.

Prioritize acquiring and maintaining MRAPs, streamline procurement processes, and ensure frontline units receive continuous supply of spare parts and ammunition.
