Dismantling the “Race Box”: Reclaiming Our True Lineages
The modern “race box” is a colonial invention. It grouped hundreds of distinct lineages under one label. This stripped people of their ancestral laws and systems of accountability. Before the transatlantic slave trade, we identified by kingdoms, nations, or tribal clans. Each carried its own protections and heritage. Forcing them into a single category created a permanent underclass. As a Creole, I feel this misalignment deeply. Bureaucracies lump me with lineages I do not share. My roots follow J2 and G2a branches tied to the Mediterranean, the Levant, and ancient Europe. We must dismantle the “race box” to move forward. Accepting it keeps us trapped under artificial hierarchies. Destroying it will restore our true identities and empower authentic alliances.
