Amb. Yusuf Tuggar’s Landmark Legacies: WAES and Democracy Pact (Part 1)
Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar resigned in March 2026 to run for Bauchi State governor. I believe his brief time as Foreign Affairs Minister left two major legacies. First, I examine the West African Economic Summit (WAES) he launched in June 2025. By creating a Deal Room for direct business and government deals, he shifted West Africa toward self-reliant growth and reinforced Nigeria’s role as the region’s economic anchor. Second, I explore the Regional Partnership for Democracy (RPD) he brokered with the UNDP and ECOWAS. This initiative moved beyond election monitoring to strengthen institutions, counter disinformation, and include youth and women in governance. In part two, I will review his global partnerships and the 4D Doctrine that defined Nigeria’s new foreign policy approach.
