Ebola Fears Force Cancellation of DR Congo vs Chile Friendly
The planned international friendly between DR Congo and Chile in La Línea de la Concepción, Spain, has been called off over concerns about the ongoing Ebola outbreak in eastern DR Congo. Local authorities in La Línea signed a decree halting the match after medical advisers warned of potential health risks. DR Congo’s squad, based in Belgium for preparations, have not recently visited home but some staff and fans travelled from the affected region. The cancelled fixture was due on 9 June as both nations gear up for the World Cup. DR Congo now head to a friendly against Denmark in Liège, while their Group K campaign begins in Houston against Portugal on 17 June.
