Tinubu Warns Middle East Tensions Could Fuel Inflation, Pledges Stronger Security
President Bola Tinubu has vowed to intensify his administration’s fight against insecurity to ensure Nigerians feel safer. He made the pledge at an Eid-el-Fitr gathering in Lagos attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima and 23 state governors. Tinubu cautioned that the escalating crisis in the Middle East may drive up global inflation and eat into Nigerians’ purchasing power. He said vulnerable groups should be protected as prices rise and labour unions press for additional support. He highlighted recent engagements in the United Kingdom and a conversation with France’s president as key to securing modern security equipment. Governors were urged to turn their policy ideas into actions that directly improve lives and to offer incentives to cushion energy and transport costs. The Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum praised the President’s UK visit as significant for Nigeria’s international standing. He confirmed that state policing proposals will soon be presented to the National Assembly. Many governors across the country joined the meeting to reaffirm their support.
