Germany has declined President Tinubu’s nomination of Femi Fani-Kayode as ambassador. Officials cited his erratic behaviour and divisive ethnocentric and religious remarks as destabilising. The rejection came days after he reportedly insulted the UK high commissioner at a Ramadan dinner in Abuja. A senior aide says Fani-Kayode may now be posted to South Africa instead. The politician is known for controversial statements and was previously charged by the anti-graft agency on fraud and money laundering, though those cases were later dismissed.
