House of Reps to Vote on State and Local Police Bill This Thursday

The House of Representatives will vote on a constitutional amendment to allow state and local police forces. This move aims to strengthen security across Nigeria. Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who chairs the Constitution Review Committee, said members will prioritise the state police bill over other pending proposals. Lawmakers currently on oversight duties outside Abuja have been asked to return for plenary on Thursday, June 11. The bill is sponsored by the Deputy Speaker and fourteen other members. It marks a key step in efforts to address rising insecurity at state and local levels.
