Iran’s New Supreme Leader Declares Gulf States Can No Longer Host US Bases

Iran’s New Supreme Leader Declares Gulf States Can No Longer Host US Bases

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei marked Eid al-Adha with a warning to regional governments. He said no country in the Gulf would serve as a shield for American military bases or aggression. Khamenei claimed the United States was losing its influence in the Middle East. He spoke amid fragile ceasefire talks between Tehran and Washington to end the war that began on February 28. The Revolutionary Guards recently reported downing a US drone and warned against any breach of the truce. US Central Command, however, says it attacked missile sites and boats laying mines in southern Iran despite the ceasefire. State media also mentioned unexplained blasts at Bandar Abbas port after a US strike, though officials have not confirmed responsibility.
