Lawyer Appeals to CJN for Swift Ruling on Vacant Ponzhi Tarok Stool

Lawyer Appeals to CJN for Swift Ruling on Vacant Ponzhi Tarok Stool

A human rights lawyer from the Tarok Nation has urged the Chief Justice of Nigeria to fast-track the hearing of a longstanding Supreme Court appeal over the Ponzhi Tarok stool. The dispute, originally filed in 2010 and now pending under SC/114/2021, concerns the appointment of the substantive paramount ruler of the Tarok people. Both parties have exchanged briefs, but no hearing date has been set. In a letter to the CJN, the lawyer stressed that resolving this case quickly is vital for unity, governance, and peace in the Tarok community. He warned that delays in determining traditional leadership amount to justice denied. Copies of the appeal were also sent to key judicial and state figures. Stakeholders are called on to support a peaceful resolution through the courts.

It's odd that a case filed since 2010 is still pending under SC/114/2021, raising questions about procedural delays and fairness.

Fast-track timelines sound good, but make dem no rush am for speed's sake and overlook key customary nuances.

Perhaps the Tarok community should push for a defined hearing schedule and regular status updates until the appeal concludes.
