Nigeria Adopts 112 as Unified National Emergency Hotline

Nigeria Adopts 112 as Unified National Emergency Hotline

The National Economic Council has approved 112 as Nigeria’s official emergency number across all agencies and states. A multi-agency implementation committee led by the Office of the Vice President and the National Communications Commission will oversee coordination and public awareness. The move aims to eliminate bureaucratic delays during fire outbreaks, accidents, medical emergencies, floods, or security threats. Citizens will now have one trusted number and a single chain of action to save lives. Vice President Kashim Shettima said this reform tests the state’s humanity and will strengthen the nation’s emergency response under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
