How a Pretty Face Cost Me ₦1.4M in a Social Media Scam

I met a fine NYSC graduate named Amaka during the COVID period. She spoke great English and was extremely pretty, so I thought using her charm would help land a social media management contract with a chairman I know. I designed a proposal under her name and paid her ₦200k to prep for the meeting. Amaka walked into his office, he awarded the six-month contract on the spot, and I gave her a friend’s account for the payment. By 3pm, no money had arrived. Amaka finally called to say the payment was in her account. She then offered to pay me ₦200k and keep the rest, revealing she’d collected ₦720k and skipped town to Kilimanjaro. I’ve lost the contract and over a million naira. A lawyer says without a written agreement or witnesses, there’s nothing I can do. Now I’m left wondering how to recover my money.

How did you first get convinced that Amaka's looks and English skills would guarantee that contract?

You're so right, expecting a deal just from her charm and polished English was overly optimistic.

What details made you sure her communication skills alone were enough proof?

It seems unusual to trust someone's appearance and charm over solid references or track record when pitching high-value proposals.

I no dey sure say looks alone fit open that kind deal; background checks must matter more than face value.

Before involving someone in expensive business deals, verify their credentials and draft clear payment terms to protect your investment.
