Falconets Beat Malawi 2-0 in World Cup Qualifier First Leg

Falconets Beat Malawi 2-0 in World Cup Qualifier First Leg

Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team claimed a 2-0 victory over Malawi in the first leg of their FIFA U20 World Cup final-round qualifier at Ikenne-Remo. Despite creating numerous chances in the opening 45, the hosts were kept at bay by Malawi’s goalkeeper until halftime. Coach Moses Adukwu’s tactical tweaks paid off immediately after the break. An own goal in the 47th minute broke the deadlock, and ten minutes later Kindness Ifeanyi doubled the lead with a clinical finish. The Falconets maintained control to see out the win. Hon. Kunle Soname rewarded the team with ₦1 million, pledging ₦500,000 per goal. The return leg is set for Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday, 9 May.

They created plenty of chances in the opening 45 but only scored late, which could signal issues with composure in front of goal.

A 2-0 advantage feels decent, but conceding too much possession early might haunt them if Malawi finds form away.

Focusing on sharper finishing drills and reinforcing defensive shape in training could help maintain momentum into the return fixture.
