Golden Hills Academy Cuts 50% of My Salary Over Lesson Note Delay

Golden Hills Academy Cuts 50% of My Salary Over Lesson Note Delay — 1 of 4
1 / 4

I’m a teacher at Golden Hills Academy in Abuja. My proprietress docked 50% of my pay for allegedly not working during the Easter break. I did virtual lessons on April 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The official break started on the 4th, yet only my pay was halved. Other teachers received full salaries. Her written excuse blames me for “no work” during the holiday, but I believe it’s retaliation for late lesson notes. Section 5 of the Labour Act forbids fines that large. I’ve been teaching every day since resumption and have proof of my work and the deduction. How can private schools treat teachers like this? I need advice and support to stop this injustice.

How did the academy justify docking half your salary when you worked virtually during part of the break?

Could you explain how they defended cutting your pay while you were teaching online during the break?

That's really harsh, especially since you did virtual work. They owe you a clear explanation for such a steep cut.

It's surprising that other teachers kept their full pay while you were penalized for teaching before the official break.

I'm not convinced docking half pay was fair, though maybe there's policy clause you missed about break duties.

Next time, request written confirmation of break expectations and virtual lesson schedules to avoid future pay disputes.
