Ex-Lagos PRO Bode Ojajuni Named Ogun State Commissioner of Police

Ex-Lagos PRO Bode Ojajuni Named Ogun State Commissioner of Police

Mr. Bode Ojajuni has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police for Ogun State. The Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, announced the promotion today. Ojajuni previously served as Lagos State Police PRO from 2005 to 2007. He was succeeded in that role by Frank Mba, who has since climbed to the rank of Deputy Inspector General. In 2023 alone, Mba received two rapid promotions: first to Assistant Inspector General in March and then to Deputy Inspector General just months later. According to the Police Service Commission spokesperson, his swift rise reflected his seniority as the highest-ranking officer from the South East. It’s worth noting that when Tunji Disu became IGP last month, some assumed he was junior to Mba. Records show, however, that Disu was senior to Mba, and officers like Ojajuni also outranked him at the time.

Moving from Lagos PRO to Ogun CP seems like a promotion on paper, but will the new role challenges differ significantly from his previous post?

I'm not convinced that appointing a former Lagos PRO guarantees improved security in Ogun. Different states face unique issues beyond just leadership changes.

To support his transition, community groups in Ogun State could organize public safety forums where citizens voice expectations and concerns directly to the police.
