Former NNPP Kwara Chairman Detained Over Alleged Party Asset Theft

Former NNPP Kwara Chairman Detained Over Alleged Party Asset Theft

Alhaji Fatai Jimoh Imam, ex-Chairman of the NNPP in Kwara State, was arrested on March 30, 2026, by the State CID. He faces allegations of misappropriating party vehicles, equipment and funds. The arrest followed a disputed December 2025 congress that saw Comrade Abdullahi Atolagbe Mohammad elected as the new chairman. Imam is accused of refusing to hand over party property and continuing to present himself as leader. Investigators say Imam took two Volkswagen vehicles, generators, loudspeakers and more. He also allegedly opened an unauthorized Zenith Bank account to collect and share party funds with associates. Charged in an Ilorin magistrate court on counts including conspiracy, theft and impersonation, Imam’s lawyer pleaded guilty but could not meet bail conditions. He remains in Oke Kura Prison as the NNPP’s new executive committee moves forward.

The timing of the arrest right after a disputed congress raises questions about political motivations more than straightforward justice.

I'm not convinced these claims aren't just a faction settling scores under the guise of legal action.

NNPP should publish a full audit of its assets and cooperate fully with investigators to restore public trust quickly.
