Court Hears How Travel Agent Faked Client’s Marriage on UK Visa
A UK-based Nigerian has told Abuja’s Federal Capital Territory High Court that his travel agent secretly added a woman as his wife to his 2022 visa application. He claims the agent did this despite being told repeatedly that he was single. He said the agent, introduced by the pastor of his church in Ado-Ekiti, listed Miss Dolapo Afusat Yusuf as his legally married spouse. This false information later triggered an inquiry from the UK Home Office when he applied for his real wife’s visa. According to his testimony, the agent blocked him after seeing an official email request for proof of a prior divorce. As a result, the Home Office refused the follow-up application, believing he was already married. The defendant faces trial for allegedly arranging a sham marriage to help Miss Yusuf travel abroad. The case resumes on October 7 for further evidence.
