NYSC Denies Claim That Corps Members Were Paid ₦50,000 to Influence Osun Election

The National Youth Service Corps has rejected an online report alleging that corps members were paid ₦50,000 to sway the forthcoming Osun State governorship election. In a statement released on Thursday, the Osun State NYSC said the claim was false, misleading, and without any factual basis. It stressed that the scheme is non-partisan and has not authorised or supervised any such payment. The NYSC also said corps members are being reminded to stay apolitical, protect electoral materials, and follow all electoral guidelines. It added that it is working with security agencies to ensure their safety before, during, and after the election.

Election season always brings this kind of story, and denials usually come just as quickly.

A clear official statement helps, but better media checking would reduce these rumours before they grow.
